Congested Work Site with CA/T Vent Building in Background |
Location:
Boston, MA
Owner: Intell Boston Harbor
General Contractor: Bovis Lend Lease
Project Description:
45 ft. deep parking garage excavated utilizing up-down technology.
This high rise steel structure was built over Boston’s new Silver Line Tunnel structure. The perimeter of the structure consists of a slurry wall, which had been installed during the tunnel work.
In an effort to get the condominiums to market quickly, AA Will proposed the up-down construction method for this project.
The major excavation challenges facing the construction team included pre-excavation for caissons to a depth of 35 ft, as well as handling of hundreds of existing wooden piles, and segregation of various soil contaminants during the up-down process.
AA Will developed innovative methods of facing these challenges. We worked closely with the general contractors and the owner’s consultants to assure the integrity of the system during installation.
